How Much Can You Potentially Earn Per Month From An Online Jobs Career?

If you’ve been reading my blog posts, chances are you’ve been waiting for this post. I am sure almost everyone would like to know exactly how much you can earn before you decide to pursue this career. Allow me to classify the 3 stages of earning an online Filipino professional may have. However, before anything else, I would like to state that these are just pure guidelines and not a fact. At the end of the day, it all depends on how you negotiate with your clients and both of you agreeing to a fair starting point.

Stage 1 – Newbie / Starting Out ( 0 to 6 months)

Many people, including me, started on this stage. Back then, the typical VA’s starter rate amounts to Php10,000 per month for a full-time — 8 hours of work, 5 days a week. If you will be dealing with your clients, make sure you won’t go below this, unless you want to. To be honest, there are people from different provinces in our country or outside the metropolis, who are willing to accept  less than Php10,000. Why? Because the minimium wage in most provinces, especially in Visayas and Mindanao, is at Php 6,000-8,000.

What I can suggest, especially if you are living in the Metro, is not to go below 10k per month for a full time work if possible. However, be willing to accept 10k when you’re just starting out. The typical pay range for startups that clients wanted to consider is between 10k to 13k. You might think that such rate is quite low considering the glamorousrates being mentioned by others, you’re right. One thing I can assure you, I won’t sugar coat stuff. I am here to sincerely guide you and help you start your online jobs journey. Remember, the goal in Stage 1 is for you to be able to get your first client and get experience. On this stage, you may also start building your online portfoliio (we will talk more about how to build your online portfolio in another post).

So just go and get hired and get as much experience, knowledge and skills as you can.

Stage 2 – Current / Experienced ( 6 months to 2 years )

Once you have gotten your feet wet in this career and was able to get a hold on how stuff works, You can now move on Stage 2. At this point, your client might have assessed your skills and the quality of your work which will prompt them to give you a raise or a bonus atleast (some clients do this every 3 months). At this point, your salary will definitely be higher. You may now fall into one of the classifications set by Chris Ducker, a well-known outsourcing guy. He had stated these different VA classificatons in his blog post. (http://www.chrisducker.com/how-much-do-i-pay-my-virtual-assistant/)

He stated the salary range that the 4 main types of VA in the Philippines are getting as follows:

General Virtual Assistant =  $450 to $700 a month
Article / Content Writer =  $450 to $600 a month
SEO / SEM Specialist =  $550 to $750 a month
Web Developer / Programmer =  $600 to $1,250 a month

As he stated, these are just guidelines and I agree. It’s still YOUR client who decides on this. Meet half way, you will be both happy.  :)

Stage 3 – Moving Up (2 years onwards)

This stage is the Sweet Spot. I say this because once you reached this point, chances are you have learned a lot already and are ready to lead projects. Your typical role from here forward could be a project manager or an online business manager. Here, you can earn as much as $800 to $2,000 a month or more depending on how important you are to your client & how valuable is your contribution to your client’s business

I knew some online professional who have started their own business and have set their own team of VAs working on projects under their portfolio, credentials and exposure they have gathered through the years. My advice to those who would venture into this type of business, make sure that your client knows that you have a team working with you on their projects. That way, you won’t get into trouble and lose their trust.

So there, we have broken the mystical question of “How Much?”. I hope that I was able to give you an idea on what you might get when you decide to be like the rest of us living the online jobs lifestyle.
