JOB OVERVIEW

About Winnipeg Digest
Winnipeg Digest is a fast-growing local news and lifestyle brand that keeps Winnipeggers in the loop on what's happening in their city — news, food, events, community stories, and local guides.
We reach a large, engaged local audience and we're building out our social media presence to match. You'd be joining a small, ambitious team where your work is seen by thousands of people every single day.

The Role
We're looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Social Media & Admin Assistant to own our day-to-day social content and support the business with light email and admin work. This is a content-heavy role with a real creative side — you'll be making carousels and posts that go out to a real local audience — combined with the steady behind-the-scenes support that keeps things running.
You don't need to be a viral-marketing guru. You need to be dependable, quick with design tools, organized, and genuinely good at turning local information into clean, scroll-stopping posts.

What You'll Do Day-to-Day
• Publish 2 social media posts per day across Instagram and Facebook — a mix of local "guide" style content (best brunch spots, weekend events, things to do, neighbourhood guides) and news carousels summarizing what's happening in Winnipeg.
• Design carousels and graphics in Canva (or similar) that are clean, on-brand, and easy to read.
• Write short, engaging captions with the right hooks, hashtags, and calls to action.
• Schedule and manage the content calendar so posts go out consistently and on time.
• Engage with the audience — respond to comments and DMs, and flag anything important.
• Handle email and admin support — organizing the inbox, replying to routine messages, light data entry, and general assistant tasks to keep the operation running smoothly.

Must-Have Skills
Proven experience creating social media carousels and graphics (Canva or equivalent) — please include a portfolio or examples.
Strong written English — clear, natural, and typo-free captions and emails.
Experience managing Instagram and Facebook for a business or brand.
Highly organized and reliable — you hit deadlines and don't need to be chased.
Comfortable working full Winnipeg business hours (Central Time) for real-time collaboration.
Good eye for design and detail — you notice when spacing, alignment, or wording is off.
Stable internet and a computer capable of running Canva and design tools smoothly.

Big Bonus (Not Required)
Video editing — if you can cut Reels, TikToks, and short-form video (CapCut, Premiere, etc.), that's a major plus and will make your application stand out.
Familiarity with scheduling tools (Meta Business Suite, Later, Buffer, etc.).
Basic knowledge of social media analytics and what makes content perform.
Interest in local news, food, and community content.

Who You Are
You're proactive — you spot what needs doing and get ahead of it.
You take feedback well and improve fast.
You're consistent. Two posts a day, every day, done well.
You communicate clearly and keep things organized.
What We Offer
Full-time, long-term, stable position with a growing brand.
Consistent Monday–Friday schedule.
A role where your creative work is visible and genuinely matters.
Room to grow as the brand grows.
